During Monday night’s red carpet appearance at the Met Gala in New York, Elon Musk’s wife Grimes brandished a sword that came dangerously close making contact with a reporter’s face.

Celebrities turned heads at red carpet livestream for their eclectic accessories, and Grimes’ accessory of choice was a large sword. A Vogue reporter began an interview by saying that her “mind was blown to outer space” over the singer’s fashion, asking Grimes what inspired her outfit. According to the Canada native, her look was a nod to American fashion and the classic science-fiction novel “Dune” by Frank Herbert.

“[I]t’s inspired by the movie Dune, which is not out yet but I’m just a fan,” said Grimes. “It’s an American author so it fits the theme that American people were involved in the making of it.” (RELATED: Musician Grimes Says She Was Hospitalized For A Panic Attack)

The presenter noted her “badass accessory,” referring to the sword she was wielding. Grimes explained that her sword was created by a company “that will melt down your automatic weapons and make a sword,” after hoisting it near the reporter’s face.

The reporter noted that Grimes is a Canadian immigrant to the U.S., further asking the musician why she left her former country’s fashion behind and conformed to American-style wear.

“I’ll always be a part of Canadian fashion, because actually, Canadian fashion is sick, especially the artificial kind,” Grimes said. “But I love America, I know you’re not supposed to say that but I think everyone who cares about art comes here and all the best art in the world is here so please let me have my green card, President Biden.”

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez showed up to the lavish annual Gala in a “Tax the Rich” dress and drew criticism online for her political message. Vice President Kamala Harris’ step-daughter Ella Emhoff attended in a red, sheer outfit.
