Don’t coverup the problem, solve it.

If you’re like most of us, when you experience dry skin or chapped lips, you grab the first-available moisturizer or lip balm because for at least a little while, it works.  And then, a few hours later, you grab the moisturizer or balm again because your skin’s dry or your lips are chapped again.  According to Aron Marquez, co-founder of the innovative men’s skincare company, Ombré Men, this rinse and repeat cycle occurs because you’re just temporarily covering up the problem.

According to co-founder, Justin Tarin, we suffer from dry skin and chapped lips because the outer layer of our skin has lost water.  Moisturizers work by forming an oily layer on the top of the skin that traps water in the skin.  As long as the moisturizer is present, your skin feels better.  But the effect is short-lived because you rub the moisturizer off, sweat it off, or wash it off.  And when it’s gone, the problem is still there because the “moisturizer” you used didn’t actually moisturize your skin.

Ombré Men takes a different approach.  Rather than temporarily covering up your dry skin with oil, it utilizes glycerin to draw your body’s water into the outer skin layers.  Think of a sponge.  Getting water into your outer skin cells results in healthier, smoother skin and it stimulates the growth of new skin cells.  Moreover, studies have shown that glycerin-containing products may protect your skin against irritants and microbes, as wells as soothe inflamed or wounded skin.

Co-founder, Abraham Ancer said Ombré Men chose this approach not only because it’s healthier for us, its better for the planet.  Glycerin is a natural product that comes from plants such as soybeans, coconut, and palm oils.  Commercial moisturizers often use products such as petrolatum (petroleum jelly), lanolin, liquid paraffin, and castor oil.  That’s one of the reasons why your hands often feel so greasy after using a moisturizer.

According to Tarin, Ombré Men’s guiding philosophy is look good, feel good, do good.  Anytime we can replace a synthetic product with a natural one, we do so.  Moisturizers presented us with a great opportunity.  By using natural, plant-based glycerin to actually solve a problem instead of covering it up with a petroleum product, we’ve accomplished each of our company’s tenants.  Give it a try.  Your skin will thank you and you’ll make the planet a better place to live in.
