A hiker in Hawaii came across a stream that he said smelled like beer.

A water test found the stream contained as much as 1.2% alcohol, according to a Hawaii News Now story published Nov. 10.

Carroll Cox alerted the Hawaii Department of Highways of the spill in Waipio, Hawaii News Now reported. Investigators traced the smell back to a storm pipe.

The runoff containing alcohol gushed out of the storm pipe despite there being no rain in the area for days, according to Hawaii News Now.

“The other day we came here you would think it was a beer pub that hadn’t opened its doors for three or four days,” environmentalist Caroll Cox said according to the outlet.

Paradise Beverages is Hawaii’s largest alcohol distributor, according to Hawaii News Now. (RELATED: REPORT: Liquor Stores, Bars And Restaurants Are Facing Alcohol Shortages)

“It may be coming from us so that’s why we’re working with proper authorities,” Paradise Beverages director of operations Anthony Rowe said, Hawaii News Now reported.

“It’s disturbing. It makes you want to pull your hair out, and I don’t have much left,” Cox said.

The Hawaii Department of Highways did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller for comment.
