The premiere of “1883” put up some monster TV ratings.
The first two episodes of the highly-anticipated “Yellowstone” prequel dropped this past Sunday on Paramount+ and aired later at night on the Paramount Network. (REVIEW: ‘Yellowstone’ Is Amazing With ‘No Kindness For The Coward’)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, including encore airings and a simulcast on CMT, the premiere had 6.4 million Sunday night.
That number doesn’t include DVR or streaming numbers, which will certainly push the final total viewership number through the roof.

I’m not surprised at all that the premiere of “1883” put up such monster numbers for its premiere. I’m not surprised in the least bit.
“Yellowstone” is the most-watched scripted show on television, and there’s not a close second. The Taylor Sheridan series is putting up numbers that we haven’t seen since the days of “Game of Thrones.”
So, it would only make sense that the prequel also gets big numbers.

To put in comparison just how impressive of a premiere this is for “1883,” the premiere of “Yellowstone” in 2018 had 2.83 million viewers.
That means “1883” easily doubled up the ratings for the first episode of “Yellowstone.” Yeah, I’d say things are going very well!
The @Yellowstone prequel @1883Official is AWESOME through two episodes.
I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen watching the backstory of the Duttons. Another huge hit for Taylor Sheridan and @paramountplus. pic.twitter.com/vkw9f3Vp8G

If you haven’t already seen “1883,” I can’t recommend it enough. It’s gritty as all hell and you’ll love it if you love “Yellowstone.” Make sure to check it out on Paramount+!
