Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro was hospitalized Monday after experiencing abdominal pain, the Associated Press reported.

Bolsonaro is “doing well,” according to a government statement published by Globo, according to the AP. The president is stable and will be reevaluated by his doctor, Antônio Luiz de Vasconcellos, CNN reported.

The president started feeling sick Sunday and was admitted to the Vila Nova Star Hospital early Monday, Bolsonaro wrote in a tweet. He was given a gastric probe, and further tests will be administered to determine if surgery is necessary, he said. Bolsonaro was hospitalized in July 2021, when a physician found an intestinal obstruction after the leader experienced chronic hiccups. Meanwhile, the same physician operated on Bolsonaro after he was stabbed while campaigning in 2018.

“It’s the second hospitalization with the same symptoms, the results of the stabbing (September 6, 2018) and four major surgeries,” the president tweeted Monday.
