TODAY: BIDEN ATTACKS TRUMP IN CALL FOR UNITY… Biden Set To Claim Trump Has ‘Singular Responsibility’ For Capitol Riot
President Joe Biden is marking the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol with a speech Thursday morning that will address former President Donald Trump’s role and call for the nation to reject political violence.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki gave a brief preview of the president’s upcoming remarks during Wednesday’s press briefing. While she declined to say whether Biden will invoke Trump by name, Psaki said he will address the “singular responsibility President Trump has for the chaos and carnage we saw.”
“He will forcibly push back on the lie spread by the former president in an attempt to mislead the American people and his own supporters, as well as distract from his role and what happened,” Psaki added.
Another focus of the president’s speech will be addressing what kind of a nation the U.S. should be, according to a preview of his remarks provided by the administration. Biden will ask whether the country will “allow partisan election officials to overturn the legally expressed will of the people” and if the U.S. “lives not by the light of the truth but in the shadow of lies.”
LORD FANG FANG ACCIDENTALLY ASKS A REAL QUESTION… ERIC SWALWELL: Who left pipe bombs near the Capitol last January 5?
(FOR FUN… READ THE QUOTE TWEETS… BLUEANON THINKS IT WAS MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE…)
EVEN AN MSNBC HOST IS FINALLY ASKING ABOUT THIS… CHRIS HAYES: Kinda wild we just…never caught the person who planted pipe bombs outside the DNC and RNC.
MEANWHILE… LORD FANG FANG ESCAPES TO MASKLESS MIAMI… Eric Swalwell Caught Maskless On Vacation At Luxurious Miami Hotel
Another Democrat has been spotted vacationing maskless in the state of Florida.
California Rep. Eric Swalwell was photographed at the Loews Miami Beach hotel on vacation. In the photos, exclusively published by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, Swalwell is caring for his baby son in the hotel lobby as he speaks to a woman.
In a tweet Dec. 31, Swalwell said that “Republican liars” were the ones “prolonging” the pandemic: “THESE GUYS. Republican liars. Your vacation cancelled. Your kids back to virtual learning. And back to masks everywhere. For blame look no farther than #TheseGuys.”
SWALWELL CAN EXPLAIN… I WAS ‘MEETING WITH A CONGOLESE QUEEN’… ERIC SWALWELL: They got me! Maskless, juggling a baby and a coffee while meeting with a Congolese queen. Pulitzer please!
OLD GRAY LADY ADMITS THAT COVID ISN’T LIKELY TO KILL YOU… COMPARES IT TO FLU… NY TIMES: COVID NOW POSES ‘LESS THREAT TO MOST VACCINATED ELDERLY PEOPLE THAN THE ANNUAL FLU DOES’… ‘THE KIND OF HEALTH RISK PEOPLE ACCEPT EVERY DAY’…
Consider this: Before Omicron, a typical vaccinated 75-year-old who contracted Covid had a roughly similar risk of death — around 1 in 200 — as a typical 75-year-old who contracted the flu. (Here are the details behind that calculation, which is based on an academic study.)
Omicron has changed the calculation. Because it is milder than earlier versions of the virus, Covid now appears to present less threat to most vaccinated elderly people than the annual flu does.
The flu, of course, does present risk for the elderly. And the sheer size of the Omicron surge may argue for caution over the next few weeks. But the combination of vaccines and Omicron’s apparent mildness means that, for an individual, Covid increasingly resembles the kind of health risk that people accept every day.
IS BIDEN FINALLY ADMITTING HE CAN’T CONTROL NATURE? … POLITICO: White House embraces a manage-not-contain Omicron game plan
When President Joe Biden took office last January amid a winter Covid-19 surge, he vowed an all-out federal assault aimed at vanquishing the virus.
A year later, with the country facing unprecedented levels of disease once again, his administration is now hoping to fight it to a draw. […]
The new reality has further darkened the mood among White House aides already frustrated by the lack of progress toward ending a pandemic many initially believed could be dispatched within a year. It’s also accelerated the administration’s pivot toward preparing people to live with the virus indefinitely. In interviews, officials described the next few weeks as a triage operation focused on containing the reverberations of the surge well enough to avert breakdowns in essential services, mass school closures and overrun hospitals.
THERE’S ALWAYS A TWEET… White House Chief Of Staff Ron Klain Criticized Testing Shortage In 2020, But Now The Biden Admin Faces Its Own Crisis
An old tweet from White House Chief of Staff Ronald Klain criticizing the shortage of coronavirus tests in June of 2020 is coming back to haunt him as the Biden administration struggles amid a testing shortage.
“Testing still isn’t fixed. Testing still isn’t fixed. Testing still isn’t fixed. We are the richest country on Earth, and we don’t have enough SWABS. Testing still isn’t fixed. Testing still isn’t fixed,” Klain tweeted June 26, 2020.
President Joe Biden recently admitted that while his administration has made efforts to make testing more available, it’s “clearly not enough.”
“We went from no over-the-counter tests in January to 36 million in October, 100 million in November and almost 200 million in December,” Biden said. “But it’s not enough. It’s clearly not enough.”
AUSTRALIA DEMANDS DETAILED MEDICAL INFO FROM TENNIS STAR… Star Athlete Forced To Go Home After Being Held At Airport Over Vaccine Exemption
Tennis world No. 1 Novak Djokovic had his visa cancelled Wednesday after being held under police guard at Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne, Australia. He had a medical exemption to compete in the Australian Open from Jan. 17 to Jan. 30.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a press conference to address the growing outrage among Australians over the decision.
Novak Djokovic must “provide acceptable proof” that he cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons, Morrison said during the press conference, ABC News reported.
“If that evidence is insufficient, then he won’t be treated any differently to anyone else and he’ll be on the next plane home. There should be no special rules for Novak Djokovic at all. None whatsoever,” Morrison said.
“The ABF can confirm that Mr Djokovic failed to provide appropriate evidence to meet the entry requirements to Australia, and his visa has been subsequently cancelled,” said Australian Border Force in a statement confirming that Djokovic has been rejected following his detainment.
MVP voter Hub Arkush made waves when he called Aaron Rodgers a “bad guy” and “the biggest jerk in the league.” He made it crystal clear he won’t be voting for the Packers star, and also implied his vaccination status was an issue.
Well, Rodgers hit back Wednesday, and he called in a nuclear strike!
According to Rob Demovsky, Rodgers told the media, “He’s a bum…an absolute bum.” He also added, “His problem is I’m not vaccinated,” and that if his issue is that, the award should change to “the most vaccinated player.”
JOHN SEXTON: How many people have actually died of COVID in China?
One way to determine the actual death toll is to simply look at excess mortality, i.e. how many people died in a given year compared to other recent years. Both the NY Times and The Economist looked at data for countries around the world and found that almost everyone is probably underreporting COVID deaths, but China was in a class by itself:
The U.S. is apparently “guilty” of underreporting. According to the New York Times study, we probably undercount the prevalence of Covid deaths by about 17%. The Economist found a 7% discrepancy. They later increased their estimate of U.S. under-reporting to 30%.
China is another story. Its official statistics understate the Chinese Covid death rate by 17,000% (according to The Economist’s model).
In fact, based on excess mortality calculations, The Economist estimates that the true number of Covid deaths in China is not 4,636 – but something like 1.7 million.
LEFTIES ATTACK NEW NYC MAYOR ERIC ADAMS… PIX11: Mayor Adams’ comment on ‘low-skill’ workers receives backlash online
NEW YORK — Eric Adams has been New York City’s mayor for less than a week, but he’s already found himself the target of online scrutiny over comments he made at a press conference Tuesday.
“My low-skill workers, my cooks, my dishwashers, my messengers, my shoe shine people, those who work at Dunkin’ Donuts… They don’t have the academic skills to sit in a corner office,” Adams said as he signed the new Small Business Forward executive order to reform existing business regulations.
People online, including fellow New York politicians, saw the mayor’s comments as offensive and disparaging to certain workers.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said calling a job “low skill” is a myth used to take advantage of workers.
KAMALA HARRIS’S NIECE SLAMS ADAMS… MEENA HARRIS: Raise your hand if you’ve ever worked a “low skill” job to pay for “academic skills.” […] In conclusion, referring to anyone as a “low skill worker” only reveals that it is you who lacks academic skills.
SPEAKING OF KAMALA… CNN: Two [MORE] Harris staffers announce they’re leaving vice president’s office
Two staffers announced Wednesday that they are leaving Vice President Kamala Harris’ office.
Peter Velz, Harris’ director of press operations, shared news of his departure from the White House, which was first reported by Politico, in a series of tweets.
“Today is my last day at the White House, and it truly has been an honor. I will be forever grateful to Vice President Harris, the incredible Team @VP, and I’m so proud of our work this past year supporting this historic Administration,” Velz wrote. “The White House is an amazing place to work — you’re surrounded by the most selfless, smart, hard-working people everyday doing their best to serve the American people. And it has has [sic] been an absolute joy.”
Velz said he was leaving the White House to join the protocol team at the State Department, where he said he’s “excited to continue supporting the @VP and @POTUS for their meetings with foreign leaders, delegations, and international travel.”
Vincent Evans, who serves as Harris’ deputy director of public engagement and intergovernmental affairs, also announced he will move to the Congressional Black Caucus, where he’ll serve as executive director.
