The Italian fashion house Dolce&Gabbana announced Monday that it made a “conscious choice” to stop using real fur in all of its Collections starting this year.

“Dolce&Gabbana has chosen to discontinue the use of animal fur in all its Collections starting in 2022,” the organization said.

The announcement was made with the support of the Humane Society International, an animal rights advocacy organization, as well as the Humane Society of the United States. The newly adopted policy will follow guidelines set by the Fur Free Alliance, a global network of animal protection groups.

“We celebrate Dolce&Gabbana for ending its association with fur cruelty and transitioning to more humane and innovative materials,” said Fur Free Alliance Chairman Joh Vinding. “The world is changing and brands like Dolce&Gabbana are rightly adapting to an evolving consumer, one that wants companies to take a stand against animal cruelty and innovate for a more sustainable future.”

Dolce&Gabbana will continue working with master furriers to create “eco-fur garments and accessories,” as they shift to “sustainable faux fur alternatives” made from “recycled and recyclable materials,” according to the announcement.

Dolce&Gabbana are the latest luxury fashion brand to move away from using real fur, according to NBC News. Other brands that have ditched fur include Armani, Gucci, Prada and Moncler, all in accordance with the guidelines set by the Fur Free Alliance.
