Tom Brady has finally revealed why he’s back in the NFL.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion retired at the conclusion of last season, but it didn’t take long at all for him to change his mind and return to the Bucs. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Now, he’s shined a light on the decision that shocked many.

Brady told Complex the following in part about how his decision to unretire happened:

I really wanted to make sure this offseason, and I had told the team, that I really need to spend time with my family if I’m gonna come back and play and make this commitment to this team. I love the players. There’s no way in the world I’d be coming back to play with guys that I didn’t care deeply about…Eventually, I had to make a decision just because they were getting into free agency. Would I have preferred to wait in the end to make sure I was really, really sure? Yeah. But that wasn’t the way the NFL calendar works. So I spoke to Jason right before free agency. And I spoke to Bruce. And they’re like, as much as we’d love for you to give you time, we don’t have time.

For those of you interested, his entire interview with Complex is pretty fascinating and shines a light on his mindset through the entire situation.

I think a lot of NFL insiders never truly believed Brady was done when he announced his retirement at the end of last season. He just seemed to have too much gas left in the tank.

Well, those predicting he’d return turned out to be 100% correct and he’s back with the Bucs for at least one more season. Can he add an eighth Super Bowl ring to his collection?

Only time will tell, but there’s one thing we all know. Never bet against Brady.
