A 70-year-old Florida woman reportedly fatally shot an alleged intruder who she said refused to leave her home Sunday.

The incident unfolded Sunday when the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at Virginia Morrison’s residence about a “burglary in process,” according to Fox 35. Morrison told the outlet she was home with her partner when 38-year-old Ezequiel Rosario-Torres entered her home.

“He stepped in, and I turned around, and I said, ‘Who the hell are you? What do you want?’ Nothing. This guy never said a word the whole time he was here,” Morrison reportedly said. She then explained how she tried to hit Rosario-Torres with a broom but he kept knocking it away. Morrison’s partner fired a warning shot, but it did not make Rosario-Torres leave, she said, according to the report.

That’s when Morrison reportedly went to get her own gun. (RELATED: Man Impersonating Officer Gets Shot And Killed At Home He Was Trying To Break Into)

“[Rosario-Torres] started coming toward me and I fired a shot above him. ‘Back off dude!'” Morrison reportedly said. “And he just kept coming toward me. So I just lowered my gun and shot him.”

“I didn’t realize I hit him but once I looked, he had a hole in his t-shirt and I thought I got him,” she said, according to Fox 35. Rosario-Torres was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his wound.

“I didn’t know what he was going to do, but I knew I was going to protect myself,” Morrison reportedly said. “I’m a fighter. I’m going to defend myself.”

Authorities will now determine whether Morrison will face any charges. Orlando attorney Mike Panella told Fox 35 the shooting could fall under “justifiable use of force.”

“So if someone comes into your house and you don’t know who they are, Florida automatically says we are presuming you are in fear.”
