“Top Gun: Maverick,” the newly released sequel to the iconic 1986 action film, is already breaking records. This past weekend, the film became the highest-grossing movie in the career of its lead star, Tom Cruise. The film ditches many of the common tropes of woke Hollywood, and instead, it embraces a pro-America message absent from many new releases of the past decade.
The film earned $86 million this past weekend, grossing $291.6 total in North America, so far. As film critic Christian Toto put it, “‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is about excellence, not quotas or equity.”
