The Warriors beating the Celtics in game five of the NBA Finals got just okay TV ratings.

According to TVSeriesFinale.com, the Warriors and Steph Curry earning a huge 104-94 Monday night win to take a 3-2 lead over the Celtics averaged 9.07 million viewers on ABC in the early data. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Due to it being a live sporting event, the final ratings will be higher.

While the early numbers from Monday night are certainly a tick up from the numbers we’ve seen from the previous couple games, they’re still not great.

Yes, averaging 9.07 million viewers in the early data is a step in the right direction, but it’s still far from being great. It’s definitely a disappointment from what the league could have done years ago.

If the College Football Playoff or a big NFL playoff game got these kinds of ratings, people would be fired and the NFL would be dragged relentlessly.

Instead, it’s the NBA, which means nobody really cares very much at the end of the day.

Will game six get big numbers? It’s certainly possible seeing as how the Warriors can close it out, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for the NBA Finals to ever put up monster numbers again!
