BIDEN’S LITTLE-NOTICED TAX HIKE ON EVERYTHING…

BIDEN’S INFRASTRUCTURE LAW RAISED TAXES ON A NUMBER OF COMMONLY-USED CHEMICALS, ACCELERATING COST INCREASES FOR CONSUMERS NATIONWIDE… TED CRUZ, IN DECEMBER:

The newly-signed infrastructure package as it stands imposes roughly $13 billion worth of taxes on 42 different chemicals, critical minerals, and metallic elements that are the building blocks of common household items such as plastics, rubber, concrete, soap, lightbulbs, and electronics.

AND THOSE CHEMICAL TAXES JUST KICKED IN ON JULY 1… EIDE BAILLY:

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), signed into law in November 2021, reinstated the Superfund Chemical Excise Tax. The tax is effective July 1, 2022, through December 31, 2031.

The Superfund Trust Fund is administered by the Environmental Protection Agency and finances cleanup and enforcement efforts at environmentally hazardous waste sites nationwide. The reinstated excise tax on chemicals and substances containing chemicals funds a portion of the Superfund Trust Fund.

The original Superfund Chemical Excise Tax was enacted with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 (CERCLA) and expired on December 31, 1995.

CRUZ WAS JOINED BY JOHN BARASSO, JIM INHOFE, JOHN KENNEDY, PAT TOOMEY, AND MIKE LEE IN TRYING TO REPEAL IT… NONE OF THOSE SENATORS VOTED FOR THE INFRASTRUCTURE BILL…

THE WHITE HOUSE HAS SOLD THE TAX HIKE AS BEING GOOD FOR ‘BLACK AMERICANS,’ WITHOUT REVEALING THAT THEY WILL NOW HAVE TO PAY HIGHER COSTS ON CONSUMER GOODS… WHITE HOUSE, JUNE 19: FACT SHEET: The Biden-Harris Administration Advances Equity and Opportunity for Black Americans and Communities Across the Country

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will deliver the largest investment in tackling legacy pollution in American history by: cleaning up Superfund and brownfield sites; reclaiming abandoned mine land; and capping orphaned oil and gas wells. More than one in four Black Americans live within 3 miles of a Superfund site– a higher percentage than for Americans overall.

SPEAKING OF TAXES… AOC Hit With Fines And Warrants For Dodging Taxes

New York state has hit Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with fines for dodging tax warrants filed against her former business five years ago.

The state filed a tax warrant against Brook Avenue Press — a children-oriented publishing house Ocasio-Cortez founded in 2012 — on July 6, 2017, to collect $1,618 in unpaid corporate taxes, the Washington Examiner reported. The tax warrant has increased 52% to cost $2,461 due to the representative not paying the taxes.

New York issues tax warrants if businesses “fail to timely resolve” their debt and do not respond to their notices and will proceed with “further collection action,” according to the New York Department of Taxation and Finance.

The state filed the tax warrant nearly two months after she launched her campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives against former Democratic New York Rep. Joe Crowley, the Examiner reported. A representative for the Bronx County Clerk’s Office told the outlet that the warrant remains open.

BIDEN HAS BEEN SENDING OUR EMERGENCY OIL RESERVE TO… CHINA???? …. REPORT: Oil That Biden Released From US Strategic Reserves Ended Up In China

Millions of barrels of oil released last month from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve by President Joe Biden went to foreign nations, including China, according to Reuters.

Biden ordered the release of 50 million barrels of oil from Strategic Petroleum Reserve in November, 30 million barrels on March 1 and 180 million barrels on March 31, saying the “historic” actions would ease the pressure faced at pumps. The Strategic Petroleum Reserve will continue to release one million barrels a day through October, even as the Strategic Petroleum Reserve has fallen to its lowest level since 1986, according to Reuters. U.S. crude inventories are at their lowest since 2004, according to the report.

“These releases will put more than one million barrels per day on the market over the next six months, and will help address supply disruptions caused by Putin’s further invasion of Ukraine and the Price Hike that Americans are facing at the pump,” Biden said in April when announcing the release.

But it turns out millions of barrels have been sent to China and other nations, according to Reuters.

*ANOTHER* JULY 4TH MASSACRE NARROWLY AVOIDED… THIS TIME, THE SUSPECTS ARE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS… ‘ONE OF THE MEN HAD BEEN DEPORTED SEVERAL TIMES’… Potential Virginia Mass Shooters Were In US Illegally, One Deported Multiple Times, Police Say (VIDEO)

Two men who were allegedly plotting a mass shooting in Virginia are in the state illegally, with one of the men having been deported several times, according to authorities.

Richmond Chief of Police Gerald Smith said during a press conference Wednesday that “a hero citizen picked up the phone and overheard a conversation there was a mass shooting being planned here in the city of Richmond, Virginia,” according to NBC 12.

“There’s no telling how many lives this citizen hero saved from one phone call,” Smith said. “One phone call saved numerous lives on the Fourth of July.”

“We know what their intent was but we don’t have a motive,” he added.

Authorities arrested 52-year-old Julio Alvarado-Dubon and 38-year-old Roman Balacarcel, who allegedly planned to shoot up Richmond’s Fourth of July celebration. Both men were charged with being non-citizens in possession of a gun. Smith said the men are roommates.

Alvarado-Dubon had two rifles, a handgun and 200 rounds of ammunition and was arrested July 1. Balacarcel was surveilled by authorities and arrested Tuesday with the same charges.

Smith said it was “frustrating” that one of the men had been deported several times and was able to re-enter the country.

NEW LOW JOE… ED MORRISSEY: 30%: Slidin’ Biden hits new approval low in Civiqs poll

Joe Biden would make one hell of a limbo dancer. No matter how low the bar drops on his approval-rating floor, Biden always manages to dance under it. At least in the Civiqs tracking poll, Biden hit a new low of 30/58 on job approval, suggesting that his floor may actually be somewhere in the 20s. […]

And since Civiqs provides state-by-state approval ratings, let’s note a few important midterm environments:

Colorado: 32/54

Florida: 29/59

Georgia: 25/62

Iowa: 28/59

Michigan: 32/56

Missouri: 22/69

Nevada: 29/60

North Carolina: 30/59

Ohio: 26/63

Wisconsin: 32/58

The only two states that have Biden above water now are Hawaii and Vermont. And Biden is only barely above water in Vermont, 42/40.

DEMS WORK WITH DUBIOUS LEGAL GROUP FOR J6 SHOW… Dems’ January 6th Committee Is Quietly Collaborating With The ‘Left’s Top Censor’: REPORT

A left-wing nonprofit that labels conservative and Christian groups “hateful” is reportedly funneling research to the committee probing the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — which claims to be “nonpartisan.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a legal advocacy group with former employees President Joe Biden has handpicked for federal roles, is collaborating with the committee, Politico reported. The group has provided roughly 40 pages of research and written testimony to the committee to facilitate its investigation of the riot, an SPLC lawyer told the outlet.

“Our work has helped to document coordination between Trump, his allies and two extremist groups we’ve tracked for years,” SPLC Senior Policy Counsel on Hate and Extremism Michael Lieberman told Politico.

The SPLC has a “hate map” on its website that characterizes some mainstream right-leaning groups as extremist in order to censor them, Hayden Ludwig, a senior researcher at Capital Research Center, an investigative think tank probing nonprofits, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. The SPLC is “the Left’s top censor for groups it wants to shut down,” he said.

“Painting right-leaning groups that support widespread, traditional beliefs as ‘extreme’ is just a way of shutting down debate so leftists don’t have to defend their own radical views,” said Ludwig.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a legal group focused on religious liberty that has successfully argued dozens of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, is one of SPLC’s designated hate groups. The group criticized ADF for working to develop “religious liberty legislation and case law” that denies LGBTQ-identifying people goods and services — and says the legal group was “one of the most influential groups informing” former President Donald Trump’s “attack on LGBTQ rights.”

BIRTH OF ANOTHER BLUEANON CONSPIRACY THEORY? … OR EVIDENCE THAT TRUMP MISUSED THE IRS? … THE NY TIMES IS ‘JUST ASKING QUESTIONS’… NYT: Comey and McCabe, Who Infuriated Trump, Both Faced Intensive I.R.S. Audits

Among tax lawyers, the most invasive type of random audit carried out by the I.R.S. is known, only partly jokingly, as “an autopsy without the benefit of death.”

The odds of being selected for that audit in any given year are tiny — out of nearly 153 million individual returns filed for 2017, for example, the I.R.S. targeted about 5,000, or roughly one out of 30,600.

One of the few who received a bureaucratic letter with the news that his 2017 return would be under intensive scrutiny was James B. Comey, who had been fired as F.B.I. director that year by President Donald J. Trump. […]

Among those who were chosen to have their 2019 returns scrutinized was the man who had been Mr. Comey’s deputy at the bureau: Andrew G. McCabe, who served several months as acting F.B.I. director after Mr. Comey’s firing. […]

Was it sheer coincidence that two close associates would randomly come under the scrutiny of the same audit program within two years of each other? Did something in their returns increase the chances of their being selected? Could the audits have been connected to criminal investigations pursued by the Trump Justice Department against both men, neither of whom was ever charged?

Or did someone in the federal government or at the I.R.S. — an agency that at times, like under the Nixon administration, was used for political purposes but says it has imposed a range of internal controls intended to thwart anyone from improperly using its powers — corrupt the process?

UK… NYT: Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative Party leader.

LONDON — Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain will resign as Conservative Party leader on Thursday after a wholesale rebellion of his cabinet, a wave of government resignations and a devastating loss of party support, prompted by his handling of the party’s latest sex-and-bullying scandal.

Mr. Johnson plans to stay on in the role of prime minister until a successor is in place, likely in the fall, according to a senior official familiar with the plans, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive subject. But there was no indication of whether his party’s lawmakers, many of whom have turned against him, would go along with that. Downing Street said that he planned to make a statement to the country later on Thursday. […]

Mr. Johnson’s latest troubles erupted last week after a Conservative lawmaker, Chris Pincher, became drunk at an exclusive London club, where, it was alleged, he groped two men. Mr. Johnson had appointed Mr. Pincher to a senior party position in February despite earlier complaints of inappropriate behavior against Mr. Pincher.

Mr. Johnson at first denied being aware of the previous complaints, but it later emerged that he had known about them, and he eventually acknowledged that it was a mistake to have named Mr. Pincher to the elevated position.

JAPAN… VERGE: Japan to start jailing people for online insults

Posting “online insults” will be punishable by up to a year in prison time in Japan starting Thursday, when a new law passed earlier this summer will go into effect.

People convicted of online insults can also be fined up to 300,000 yen (just over $2,200). Previously, the punishment was fewer than 30 days in prison and up to 10,000 yen ($75).

The law will be reexamined in three years to determine if it’s impacting freedom of expression — a concern raised by critics of the bill. Proponents said it was necessary to slow cyberbullying in the country.

CALLING ALL PATRIOTS: Illinois has had a “red flag” law on its books since 2019, but it did not stop the alleged Highland Park shooter. Now even some liberal commentators are admitting that they will not stop all shooters with mental health problems. How should should governments respond to mass shootings? Let us know in the form.
