BIDEN THREATENS TO SEIZE POWER FROM CONGRESS TO PUSH CLIMATE AGENDA… WAPO: Biden to issue new policy on climate, vowing to act if Congress doesn’t

President Biden is set to travel to Somerset, Mass., on Wednesday to deliver an ultimatum on climate change: If Congress does not act to combat a fast-warming planet, then the White House will tap its own powers to respond to the crisis.

With his environmental agenda in tatters on Capitol Hill, the president plans to visit the site of a former coal-fired power plant, aiming to issue an early set of policy pronouncements that make good on his threat. Biden is expected to direct federal funds toward communities facing extreme heat, while taking new executive action to boost domestic offshore wind production, according to a White House official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the plans.

The president’s new push comes in the wake of spiking temperatures at home and abroad — and fresh political setbacks in Congress. Last week, Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) informed Democratic leaders he was not ready to support billions of dollars in new climate spending as part of a sprawling economic package that the party had hoped to advance by this month. In staking his opposition, Manchin cited persistent concerns about inflation, marking the latest disappointment that Democrats have faced at the hands of the moderate politician since last year.

NYT: With his climate plan in shreds, President Biden is debating declaring a national climate emergency. It would give him the ability to halt new oil drilling on federal lands and waters, and spend federal funds on wind, solar and other clean energy projects.

WEATHER IS CLIMATE AGAIN… KEVIN TOBER: ‘It’s Us’: Networks Blame July Heat Wave on ‘Man Made Climate Change’ (VIDEO)

Proving how much their leftist agenda takes precedence over simply reporting the news, on Tuesday, all three of the network evening newscasts blamed man-made climate change on the July heat wave sweeping much of the United States and Europe.

After spending much of the opening segment of the broadcast on the heat wave, ABC’s World News Tonightanchor David Muir turned to chief meteorologist Ginger Zee to ask the leading question of how much has the planet gotten warmer over the past fifty years.

“I was going to ask if you could just show us just the last 50 years what the record books show as far as summer highs recorded here in the U.S. And what you’ve seen, a clear trend,” Muir asked.

HELP, HELP, I’M BEING REPRESSED! … Ocasio-Cortez, Omar Roasted For ‘Pretending To Be Handcuffed’ After SCOTUS Arrests (VIDEO)

Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota were roasted on social media Tuesday for appearing to fake being handcuffed by police after they were arrested for blocking traffic outside the Supreme Court.

Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, as well as Reps. Cori Bush of Missouri and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and other members of far-left group known as “the squad” were arrested at a pro-abortion protest Tuesday afternoon. At least 17 members of Congress were arrested.

Video showed Ocasio-Cortez and Omar being led away from the group by police. One video showed Ocasio-Cortez placing her hands behind her back as if she were being handcuffed, only to raise her right hand in a fist seconds later.

“She’s pretending to be handcuffed, does a power fist, and goes back to pretending to be handcuffed,” writer Noam Blum tweeted.

WILL THE SEASON FINALE OF ‘JANUARY 6’ DELIVER THE GOODS? … JONATHAN TURLEY: Last-chance hearing: Jan. 6 committee has yet to establish a criminal case against Trump

The eighth and final scheduled hearing of the House Jan. 6 select committee is scheduled for Thursday, and its members reportedly will present a time line of events on that day, particularly the 187 minutes between the end of then-President Trump’s speech on the Ellipse and his call for supporters to leave the Capitol.

It will again replay moments from the horrific to the heroic. What it has not shown thus far, however, is what was promised at the outset: a clear criminal case against Trump.

At the start of the hearings, committee members promised they had the long-sought smoking-gun evidence — new material that would close the circle on Trump. Committee member Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) indicated he thought there was now “credible evidence” to support a variety of criminal charges. His colleague, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), said the committee would show that Trump organized a “coup” on Jan. 6, 2021.

SCHIFF SOUNDS LIKE HE’S LOWERING EXPECTATIONS… TURLEY: Adam Schiff is promising you that what “you will see on Thursday will be significant.” The question is whether it will be the new “compelling” evidence supporting criminal charges against Trump that Schiff promised before the first hearing.

TRUMP-BACKED CANDIDATE WINS PRIMARY IN MARYLAND — WITH DEMOCRAT BOOSTING… @AGHAMILTON29: DGA spent over 1 mill boosting Cox. Democrats are playing with fire with this game around the country. Maryland is one of the places where it is more likely to work out for them, but it makes it difficult to take their “threat to Democracy” rhetoric very seriously.

MICHAEL TRACEY: If these Dems really believed their own rhetoric about the calamitous existential threat of Jan 6, would they be spending millions of dollars to elevate GOP candidates whom they claim pose such a profound danger? Almost like they don’t really believe their own rhetoric…?

MORE… WAPO: Trump-backed Cox projected to win Maryland’s GOP gubernatorial primary

Maryland Republicans picked Del. Dan Cox, a first-term delegate who embraced Donald Trump’s rhetoric and tried to impeach Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, as their nominee for governor Tuesday, according to an Associated Press projection, elevating him into a contentious fight to keep control of the governor’s mansion in a deeply Democratic state.

The Republican primary race for governor tested the potency of the former president’s influence in a state that’s also backed the pragmatic conservatism of term-limited Hogan, who won twice by appealing to independents and Democrats. Outside Democratic groups flooded the airwaves with ads tying Cox to Trump in the final days of the race, hoping it would boost a candidate they viewed as ultimately easier to defeat.

“This is a fantastic night for freedom everywhere,” Cox told a cheering crowd as he declared victory.

CAPITOL POLICE CHIEF DISTURBED THAT US ATTORNEY REFUSES TO CHARGE ‘COLBERT 9’… JULIE KELLY: No one is more critical of Capitol Police than I am—so this is a stunningly honest account of Colbert’s unpunished insurrectionist. Contrary to previous reports, they unlawfully entered THREE Capitol buildings, harassed/threatened GOP lawmakers, and defied Capitol police while terrifying one Dem House staffer. @USAO_DC Matthew Graves declined to prosecute these Democratic Party activists disguised as Colbert’s crew. (SCREENGRAB OF LETTER)

KAVANAUGH’S LEFTY NEIGHBORS ARE STARTING TO REGRET THE MOBS THEY INCITED… WAPO: Brett Kavanaugh’s neighbors: For abortion rights but tired of protests

On paper at least, Emily Strulson might seem a welcoming host to the weekly protests outside Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh’s home.

The 46-year-old artist, who lives a half-block away, first marched for abortion rights as a middle-schooler with her mom on the National Mall. The court’s recent moves to overturn Roe v. Wade prompted her to chalk out a message on her driveway: “Reproduction Rights are Human Rights.” And she has had more than 200 yard signs printed and distributed that echo the widely held sentiments of her left-leaning jurisdiction just north of Washington: “Chevy Chasers for Choice.”

But two months after the demonstrators arrived — often loud and vulgar — Strulson has come to see their methods as so disturbing that come Wednesday evenings, she and her family head out to a restaurant for a long dinner.

“I understand where their passion comes from,” she said, “but I’ve had enough.” […]

Requests to the protesters to reduce volume, Winik said, are quickly rebuffed.

“They just call us fascists,” she said. “Nothing about this is healthy. We’ve got kids on this street scared to leave their homes.”

She worries their efforts — highlighted as they are by antiabortion advocates — are counterproductive. “I do think they’re hurting their own cause,” she said.

JULIE GUNLOCK: Tragic! Soros backed, soft-on-crime Arlington/Falls Church prosecutor Parisa Dehghani-Tafti dropped drug and gun possession charges against career criminal Francis Rose last year. This weekend Rose murdered two innocent men in Alexandria. (LINK)

MORE DETAILS… ALXNOW: Alexandria double murder suspect was released from jail in Arlington earlier this year

The man arrested after the fatal shooting of two construction workers in Alexandria over the weekend was set to be tried for weapons and drug charges in Arlington earlier this year, but charges were dropped.

Francis Deonte Rose, 27, has so far only been charged with burglary in connection to an incident earlier Saturday morning at an Alexandria apartment complex, but additional charges are expected.

Police say two workers, ages 48 and 24, were shot in the head and were “innocent bystanders to the whole situation.” Officers had been called to the Assembly Alexandria apartment complex around 7:30 a.m. Saturday for reports of someone kicking in the doors at “multiple” apartments, our sister site ALXnow reported yesterday.

LAWMAKER WANTS CONGRESS TO TAKE BACK CONTROL OF DC… AXIOS: Town Talker: Meet D.C.’s new worst foe in Congress

Andrew Clyde, a Republican junior member of Congress from Georgia, is now D.C.’s biggest nemesis on the Hill. […]

Republicans winning control of Congress could bring back the dark ages for local D.C. power — right as Muriel Bowser will be sworn in for a third mayoral term.

Clyde has floated banning abortion, bringing red state-style gun laws, and abolishing the mayor’s office in the deep blue city.
