A 75-year-old man is being held in police custody after allegedly killing a younger man on a nudist beach over the weekend near Lyon, France.

The victim was reportedly fondling himself while erect and staring at female nudists when an argument broke out between the two men, the Daily Beast reported. The elder nudist retrieved his hunting gun from his beach bag and shot the man, according to police reports, the outlet noted.

Others on the beach said the victim had been bothering regular beachgoers earlier in the day, and was masturbating into the ocean in front of people sunbathing, the Daily Beast continued. The man, described as an “exhibitionist,” had threatened beachgoers prior to the incident, Metro UK reported.

The accused shooter was a long-time nudist known for discouraging such perverted behavior on the beach near Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage, the Daily Beast reported. The fight broke out between the accused shooter and pervert after the latter reportedly finished performing a sex act upon himself, Metro UK continued.

Police patrolling the Grand Parc Miribel-Jonage area on bikes said they heard three gunshots and immediately responded to the scene, the outlet continued. They allegedly tried to save the accused pervert’s life but were unsuccessful, the outlet noted. Sunbathing topless is part of the norm for women in France, and there is no national law banning total nudity anywhere in France, Forbes reported. There are laws against disturbing public order, and some swimming items like burkinis (swimsuits covering the whole body) are banned in public swimming pools, the outlet noted.
