The Oxnard Police Department (OPD) announced Monday that a hospitalized soccer player died 15 days after he was involved in a large on-field fight.

Misael Sanchez, 29, was injured during a fight at Oxnard High School on July 10 that included both players and fans, the OPD shared on Facebook. Police found Sanchez unresponsive and not breathing after arriving at the school, according to CBS News. First responders rushed Sanchez to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition, the New York Post reported.

The fight broke out over a disagreement with a referee’s decision in the adult soccer game, according to CBS News. Police said that Sanchez was attacked by multiple individuals, including players from the opposing team and spectators at the high school, the outlet noted. One man was arrested for assault and felony battery after the brawl, but investigators are still looking for witnesses or any video footage of the incident, Ventura County Star reported. Prosecutors reportedly need more information before filing a decision on any other potential suspects.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death, the OPD said. The investigation into the attack remains ongoing.
