Donald Trump to Be Deposed Wednesday by New York Attorney General … WSJ

Donald Trump is set to be deposed Wednesday by the New York attorney general’s office in its civil-fraud investigation into the financial dealings of the former president and his company. “In New York City tonight,” Mr. Trump wrote on his social-media platform, Truth Social, just after midnight.

“Seeing racist N.Y.S. Attorney General tomorrow, for a continuation of the greatest Witch Hunt in U.S. history! My great company, and myself, are being attacked from all sides. Banana Republic!”

A spokeswoman for New York Attorney General Letitia James declined to comment. A lawyer for Mr. Trump didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Police exodus ‘crisis’: Officers are ditching the job at a rate ‘never seen before’ … FOX NEWS

Law enforcement officers are leaving their jobs “at a rate we’ve never seen before,” with some departments seeing decreases by as many as hundreds of members compared to the same time last year, a handful of the nation’s top police officials said.

National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Patrick Yoes sounded the alarm during the third annual Faith & Blue conference in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, when he told about 100 law enforcement officials, community leaders and reporters: “I want to signal a crisis.”

Nadler, in primary debate, calls for more federal funds for NYPD; denies past support for police defunding … FOX NEWS

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said Tuesday night that he supports more federal funds for the New York Police Department, denying that this is inconsistent with a position he took two years ago at the height of the “defund the police” movement.

In a primary debate that pitted the House Judiciary Committee chair against House Oversight Committee chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., and progressive Suraj Patel, a moderator confronted Nadler over a 2020 interview he gave with a local publication in which he appeared to support defunding. Nadler insisted that is not what happened.

“I did not say I favored defunding,” Nadler said. “I said that I thought some resources should be shifted from the police to mental health and social services, as they were … because the cops can’t do everything, you need social services and mental health services in order to decrease crime too.”

GOP Rep. Scott Perry Says FBI Agents Seized His Cell Phone

Republican Pennsylvania Sen. Scott Perry had his cell phone seized by FBI agents Tuesday, the day after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, he told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Agents confronted Perry while he was traveling with his family and seized his phone without making an attempt to contact his attorney, who would have turned the phone over to the authorities, he first told Fox News. Perry suggested the actions from the FBI in both the confiscation of his cell phone and the raiding of Mar-a-Lago belonged in a corrupt, third world country.

An attorney for former President Trump said the FBI’s search of Mar-a-Lago focused on three specific areas: a bedroom, an office and a storage area.

Lindsey Halligan, a Florida-based lawyer for Trump who was at Mar-a-Lago during the search, told CBS News in an interview that she was not allowed to go into the complex while the search occurred and needed to stay outside between the ballroom and the residence.

FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago could boost Trump’s 2024 White House run, say strategists … FOX NEWS

The FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago could wind up benefiting former President Donald Trump’s potential 2024 comeback bid. Political strategists say the Justice Department’s action against Trump has solidified Republican support behind the former president — at least for the time being.

“I’ve never seen the GOP base this red-hot before, and it’s clearly causing Republicans to rally to his defense,” said Andy Surabian, a GOP strategist and former White House official under Trump. “Ironically, all the Democrat-media attacks on Trump, from yesterday’s raid to the January 6th Committee hearings, do nothing politically but ensure that Republican voters stay attached to his hip.”

Maloney, Nadler change tune on Biden reelection in latest debate … POLITICO

Two Congressional heavyweights expressed enthusiastic support for President Joe Biden’s reelection during a debate Tuesday night, marking a dramatic departure from their position during a previous match-up.

Manhattan Reps. Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney — Democrats thrust into a primary contest by redistricting, after decades of serving as colleagues — both heaped praise on the prospect of a second Biden term when prompted by moderators.

“I am supporting Joe Biden. He has announced that he is running,” Maloney said, invoking legislation either signed by the president or bound for his desk — including a proposal designed to reduce inflation, an infrastructure investment program and a pandemic relief package.

The federal judge who reportedly signed off on the raid at former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence donated thousands of dollars to former President Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and victory fund in 2008.

Bruce Reinhart, a Florida federal magistrate judge, donated $1,000 to Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and added $1,000 more to the Obama Victory Fund that same cycle, according to federal filings.

Reinhart later contributed $500 to Jeb Bush’s failed 2016 presidential campaign, federal filings show. Reinhart did not immediately respond to a Fox News Digital inquiry on his donations.

FBI searched Melania’s wardrobe, spent hours in Trump’s private office during Mar-a-Lago raid … NY POST

FBI agents scoured Melania Trump’s wardrobe and spent several hours combing through Donald Trump’s private office, breaking open his safe and rifling through drawers when they raided the former First Family’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida Monday morning.

The Post has learned that the search warrant used by the FBI to enter the palatial Palm Beach property focused solely on presidential records and evidence of classified information being stored there.

A source close to the former president expressed concern that FBI agents or DOJ lawyers conducting the search could have “planted stuff” because they would not allow Trump’s attorneys inside the 128-room building to observe the operation, which lasted more than nine hours.

‘The Little Guys Get Swept Up’: Taxes In Senate Dems’ Climate Bill Threaten Independent Oil, Gas Producers

The proposed new taxes and fees on energy firms in the comprehensive climate package passed by Senate Democrats on Sunday may make life impossible for many independent U.S. oil and gas producers, according to industry experts.

The “Inflation Reduction Act” includes a methane emissions charge that will be the first direct federal charge or tax on methane emissions. Furthermore, the act doubles rental fees on onshore leases, imposing a new fee to nominate land to be leased, and increases onshore royalty rates to nearly 17% from 12.5% under the previous administration.
