Tennessee police arrested a Sumner County teacher’s aide Tuesday after she allegedly engaged in a years-long sexual relationship with a middle school student.

Shaundra Cartwright, who worked at White House Middle School, started having relations with the 17-year-old boy about two years ago, WKRN reported.

Authorities told the grand jury a family member of the boy contacted the Millersville Police Department (MPD) June 8 over suspicions of an inappropriate relationship between Cartwright and the child, the MPD announced in a Facebook statement. “During the course of the investigation, detectives discovered that the sexual acts began approximately two years ago when the juvenile and Mrs. Cartwright began communicating via Snapchat,” the MPD said on Facebook. “The investigation revealed that the teachers [sic] aid had sexual intercourse with the student approximately 15 times before family members of the student discovered the inappropriate sexual acts were occurring. Detectives with the Millersville Police Department presented this case to the Sumner County Grand Jury in August of 2022.”

The MPD’s case to the grand jury resulted in Cartwright being indicted for statutory rape by an authority figure and continuous sexual abuse of a child, according to the MPD Facebook statement.

Cartwright is being held at the Sumner County Jail and Sumner County Schools has suspended her without pay until the outcome of her trial, WKRN reported.
