Democratic Florida gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist profusely complimented President Joe Biden while speaking Wednesday morning on CNN.

Crist defeated Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in the state’s Democratic primary Tuesday and will face incumbent Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis in the November election. Crist previously served as governor of Florida between 2007 to 2011. He was elected as a Republican, became an independent in 2010, and joined the Democratic Party in 2012. Since 2017, Crist has represented Florida’s 13th Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

CNN’s Kaitlin Collins asked Crist whether he wants Biden to “come and campaign” with him.

“Absolutely,” Crist replied. “Listen, look what … President Biden … has done for our country. He’s been exceptional. Look what he’s done for the world! I mean what’s happening in Ukraine, him bringing NATO together, new members to NATO, Finland, Sweden, it’s remarkable. The EU? What other president could have done what he’s done?”

“He’s been phenomenal,” Crist continued. “Gas prices are down, inflation is trending down, democracy is trending up. I’m running against a guy who’s against democracy. He doesn’t support mail-in ballots. He doesn’t support African Americans and their right to vote. Joe Biden supports all of that.”

“He’s a good man. He’s a great man. He is a great president,” Crist said, adding he needs and wants Biden’s help campaigning. (RELATED: Florida Governor DeSantis Releases Campaign Ad Spoofing Famous, All-American Movie)

“Thank God Joe Biden is president of the United States today. Thank God for that,” Crist concluded.

While Crist gave Biden an open door, other Democrats have been more reluctant to ask the president for help. Democratic Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly refused to explicitly invite Biden to come campaign with him while speaking Sunday on CNN. Host Jake Tapper said Kelly was not giving an “open invitation” to Biden “even though [Biden] won the state of Arizona in 2020.”

Democratic Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet’s spokeswoman told The Washington Post they had “no comment” when asked whether Bennet wanted Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris to act as campaign surrogates. Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan’s spokeswoman told The Post that Ryan’s staff “have not asked President Biden or VP Harris to campaign in Ohio and have no plans to do so.”
