A California police association has kicked out Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul, after he allegedly flashed his membership card to police officers during his DUI arrest, the association announced Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol 11-99 (CHP 11-99), a charity that gives scholarships to the children of highway patrol employees, said in a statement that Pelosi’s “actions reflected poorly” on it and that it informed him in a letter of his membership termination. Pelosi was in violation of the “terms and conditions” of his membership after allegedly trying to hand his CHP 11-99 card to officers amid his May DUI arrest, the group said. CHP 11-99 members are barred from bringing the group’s “name or property into law enforcement contact,” an association spokeswoman previously told the DCNF, explaining that it would review Pelosi’s membership following reports on him flashing his card to officers.

“In our letter to Mr. Pelosi, we requested that he return all membership items he was issued upon joining the 11-99 Foundation,” the association said. “Once we receive all membership items back, he will be refunded what he has donated. This is the standard process we follow for any membership termination.”

Pelosi was pulled over in May in Napa, California, after getting into a car crash and was arrested with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher. He pled guilty to one DUI count Tuesday and was sentenced to three years probation as well as five days of jail time.

“We’d like to remind all our members and the public that the purpose of 11-99 membership is to show support for the sacrifice and life-saving work CHP employees carry out daily across the state to keep our families safe,” CHP 11-99 also said in its statement. “We will continue to evaluate any violation of our membership terms and conditions that is brought to our attention with due process and revoke any member who is found to violate those terms.”

A lawyer for Pelosi did not respond to a request for comment and CHP 11-99 declined to further comment.
