Police discovered a young disabled boy inside a Syracuse apartment in late August alongside two corpses that may have been there for at least three days, according to the Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick.

The child was found alive Wednesday, Aug. 24 inside the apartment alongside the corpse of his mother, Alexis Sellin, 32, and Jami Crawford, 46, according to the outlet Syracuse. Fitzpatrick said Sellin and Crawford were likely shot to death on Sunday, Aug. 21, the outlet noted.

The boy’s father badly injured him as an infant, leaving the child blind and paraplegic. The child is now believed to be 5 or 6 years of age, Syracuse continued. The father, Markese Smalls, 30, was accused of shaking his then-3-month-old son in February of 2016 and found guilty of reckless assault in January 2017, the outlet noted, citing press archives.

He was given a seven-year sentence for the assault, but released in February 2022, the outlet noted. Smalls is not a suspect in the deaths of Sellin or Crawford, Syracuse continued.

Law enforcement has not spoken to the child, who is currently recovering from three days of not eating, the outlet noted. (RELATED: Father Of Brutally Murdered Child Beats The Hell Out Of Accused Murderer In Court Room)

“It’s a pretty disturbing case happening in Eastwood we got called to the residence found two deceased adults inside it’s looking like a result of the deaths are from a shooting that happened previous to us arriving,” Syracuse police Lt. Matthew Malinowski said following the discovery, CNY Central reported.
