Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul was holding a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday announcing a new hallway in New York City’s Penn Station, when the ceiling started leaking before the hallway even opened.

The New York governor was announcing a new main entrance on the Long Island Rail Road concourse to and from Penn Station. MTA Chair Janno Lieber said, “We’re opening a space in Penn Station finally that’s more fit for humans than rodents,” CBS News reports. Hochul said we are “literally raising the roof on Penn Station.”

Hochul said she was making Penn Station “world class” and touted her record as governor — even as the ceiling started leaking in the station hallway where she held a press conference. (RELATED: New York Bans ‘Gendered Language’ In New ‘Salespeople’ Law)

“I’ve not been shy in sharing my thoughts about Penn Station,” Hochul said, adding that the station is, “the beating heart of New York City.”

“So, as soon as I became Governor, I got to work. Because while it’s always been a good idea to have a better Penn Station and we know how critical it is, it just wasn’t happening at the he rate we thought it should,” Hochul said as water dripped down in front of her podium.

An MTA executive said the area wasn’t finished yet, as condensation formed from the ceiling, causing it to drip fluid, a New York Daily News reporter said. The executive said they had to revamp the HVAC system.
