Sampada “Sam” Kapoor has been named in the list of 2023 Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” for her extraordinary and stately business law practice. Sampada is a rising young attorney who has shown her prowess as a litigator in her short legal career. The “Ones to Watch” list is based entirely on peer review and identifies the extraordinary lawyers who have been in practice for less than ten years in the United States.

As an experienced litigator, Ms. Kapoor has risen to the top of her field through her civil defense work and has successfully defended Fortune 500 companies such as Google, Georgia-Pacific, Chevron, International Paper Company, and Weyerhaeuser Company. She has displayed her competitiveness since her college days. Her journey started with receiving full scholarships to college and law school and graduating from both with distinction. After that, she accepted a position with one of the most prestigious commercial litigation firms in the South, Forman Watkins & Krutz, LLP, where she now practices as a senior associate.

In addition to working as an associate there, Sampada was simultaneously a professor at the University of Mississippi School of Law. Being a law school professor at 25, she has been the youngest law school professor in the school’s history. Along with that, she has written several legal articles, one appearing in the American Bar Association’s Business Law Today.

Recognition As One Of The Top 40 Attorneys In Mississippi

Because of her distinguished practice, Sampada was invited to become an associate at Forman Watkins & Krutz, LLP. She has also been the recipient of numerous awards before her recognition on the “Ones to Watch” list. For every year since 2020, Sampada has been recognized as a “Rising Star” by Mid-South Super Lawyers.

Additionally, Sampada was recognized as one of the top 40 attorneys in Mississippi by the Mississippi Bar Journal in 2019. The Mississippi Business Journal awards this recognition to the top 40 attorneys annually who exhibit both the legal success and the qualities of character that exemplify this honor. Because of her achievements in Mississippi, she is well known in the Mississippi legal community for her work with groups such as the Mississippi State Bar Young Lawyers Division and the Mississippi Bar’s Business Law Section.

While practicing law and teaching at the University, Sampada experienced a lack of diversity in legal firms and an underrepresentation of minority communities. This prompted her to launch a legal pipeline program  in order to combat law school diversity with great results. This legal  pipeline program has a particular emphasis in helping students at historically black colleges and universities.  She is helping minority students get the resources and help needed to perform at par with all other students and get the opportunities they need to lead a successful and fulfilling legal career.

Sampada also serves as the Regional Coordinator of the Mississippi High School Mock Trial Competition. In her efforts to support young lawyers, she also serves as the District Director for Hinds Post IV for the Young Lawyers Division of The Mississippi Bar.

As We Advance

Sampada Kapoor has ambitious goals for the future. Along with advancing her career by building her labor and employment experience, she is working to give back to society. After helping students with the pipeline program, she is also working on making legal access more available to the general public. Because of these efforts, she was awarded the 2022 Law-Related Public Education Award. This award recognized her efforts of working to increase access to legal knowledge through student mentoring and pro bono volunteerism.
