A man reportedly stole thousands of dollars from a New York City restaurant before coming back to the establishment the next month and unsuccessfully trying to rob it again, according to NBC 4 New York.

The individual purportedly lifted about $20,000 in cash from a safe at Manhattan’s Cosme restaurant on July 28, the NYPD told The Daily Caller News Foundation. Police said the man showed up at the restaurant and went to its back office again in August, but failed to crack the safe a second time, according to NBC 4 New York.

NYPD Crime Stoppers tweeted Sunday that the individual had not yet been identified and indicated that he was still at large, displaying footage of him inside the restaurant.

The man broke into the restaurant in the morning prior to its opening for dinner in both instances, according to NBC 4 New York. (RELATED: Man With Over 40 Arrests, Including For Assault, Allowed To Roam Free On NYC Subway)

The NYPD informed the DCNF it was asking for the public’s help to determine the individual’s whereabouts and revealed that the footage showed his second reported escapade at the restaurant.

By the week of Sept. 29, year-to-date reported burglaries were up roughly 32.4% in New York City compared to the same time in 2021, NYPD data showed. Reported grand larceny and grand larceny auto increased by around 43.4% and 38% respectively.
