Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Democratic mayor was arrested Saturday night for intoxicated driving after involvement in a crash, according to The Associated Press.

The crash involving Tom Henry and his wife did not cause any reported injuries, the outlet reported. He was let out of Allen County Jail less than 24 hours later.

Henry tweeted an apology to his city’s population and his family Sunday morning, saying he had been drinking at a local engagement and took “full responsibility” for his actions.

“I’m relieved that no one was hurt in this incident,” he added. “The Fort Wayne Police Department handled this situation with professionalism and followed all of the correct procedures and protocols.” (RELATED: Coked-Up Woman Kills Drunk Driver High On Meth In Gruesome Crash, Police Say)

Henry said in front of press Sunday that he “knew better than to be in a position where there was gonna be impaired driving,” but did not answer questions about his political plans going forward, according to Fox 55 Fort Wayne. He declared his intention in June to run for a fifth four-year term as mayor after previously indicating he would not do so, Fort Wayne’s NBC reported.

A mayor’s office representative referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to statements Henry had publicly released. The Fort Wayne Police Department did not immediately respond to the DNCF’s request for comment.
