A woman sustained serious injuries Friday after getting hit by a car in Staten Island, and later died when the ambulance transporting her to the hospital crashed, according to multiple reports.

Maria-Elena Andres, 34, was headed to work at around 6:00 a.m. when she was hit by a Dodge Charger while crossing the street, according to CBS News. The driver stayed on scene and spoke to responding officers, according to the outlet.

The emergency vehicle arrived shortly thereafter to transport Andres, who was allegedly in critical condition, to Richmond University Medical Center, CBS News reported. Witnesses that spoke with CBS News stated that the ambulance was traveling the wrong way on a one-way street. The impact of the collision with the Jeep was reportedly so hard that the ambulance flipped on its side.

Following the second crash, another ambulance arrived on scene to transport Andres to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, according to reports.

Three EMTs, and the driver of the Jeep were reportedly injured and transferred to local hospitals for treatment. The four individuals are said to be in stable condition, New York 1 reported. An investigation is ongoing, but neither the Jeep or Dodge driver were arrested, according to reports. (RELATED: Taxi Crashes On Manhattan Sidewalk, Six People Hospitalized)
