Democrats performed worse than Republicans on issues that were most important to voters in a Wednesday poll from Politico and Morning Consult.

On the economy, which 81% of respondents said would play a major role in their voting decision, 46% of voters trusted Republicans more while only 39% trusted Democrats more, the poll found. The survey comes amid a wave of Republican gains in midterm polling.

Another 80% of voters said inflation would play a major role in determining their vote, and 46% of respondents trusted Congressional Republicans on the issue compared to 37% who trusted Democrats more, according to the poll; 61% thought inflation is getting worse. Crime was the third-most important issue to voters, with 64% saying it would play a major role in their vote; 45% of respondents had more trust in Republicans to handle crime compared to 38% for Democrats, the poll found.

Democrats performed best on issues of abortion access, climate change, the environment and health care, the poll found. Abortion was a major issue for 59% of respondents, and the poll didn’t survey voters on whether the remaining issues would play a major role in their vote.

Several other recent polls have brought bad news for Democrats as voters focus on inflation and the economy.

The poll surveyed 2,005 registered voters Oct. 14-16 with a 2% margin of error.
