Alec Baldwin posted a tribute to Halyna Hutchins on his Instagram page Friday, and it left fans divided.

The famous actor posted an image of Hutchins working on the set of Rust, alongside a very simple caption that read, “One year ago today…”

Baldwin was holding the gun that discharged and ultimately killed Hutchins on October 21, 2021, according to CBC. Some fans posted messages of assurance and support, while others felt the post was distasteful and tone deaf, considering the details surrounding the situation, according to the New York Post.

The image of Hutchins working behind the camera immediately prompted fans to flood Baldwin’s comments section. Some instantly began to slam Baldwin and were upset by the fact that he shared her photo on his social media page.

“This feels really inappropriate since you’re the one who shot and killed her…,” one person commented, according to the NY Post.

Another person conveyed they were unhappy to see Baldwin using Hutchins’ image. “Your family continues to grow…they are down to only 2,” the commenter wrote, according to the outlet.

It was too much for some to see that Baldwin and his wife, Hilaria, were able to grow their family by welcoming two children into the world since Hutchins’ death, while her family continues to mourn her loss, according to E Online. Another commenter wrote, “inappropriate. This could be very misunderstood,” according to the outlet.

Baldwin did see his fair share of support within the comments section of this Instagram post. Many fans showed their support with messages such as “thank you for having common sense. Obviously it was an accident,” according to one comment. “So hard. I am so glad you and her husband are working together to finish the movie. You honor her in finishing the job. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” another commented.

Other messages included “sending you love and peace,” “Be good to yourself today,” and “Stay strong my friend. Thinking about you and all those effected by this terrible accident ❤️❤️❤️.”

Baldwin denies pulling the trigger, and has not faced any charges surrounding the incident at this time, according to the NY Post.
