Henry Cavill announced his return to playing Superman in upcoming DC Comics films Monday following his cameo in the post-credit scene of the studio’s newest film, “Black Adam.”

Cavill apparently waited until the weekend was over before making the announcement to give fans a chance to see Dwayne Johnson’s “Black Adam” without any spoilers, he announced in an Instagram post.

“I am back as Superman,” he stated, calling a photo of him in his Superman suit attached to the post and his appearance in the end credits, “just a very small taste of things to come.”

“Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded,” he added.

The plan is reportedly to have Cavill clash Johnson in a “long-form” story, “Black Adam” producer Hiram Garcia told Cinema Blend. “It’s not just about a ‘one fight’ situation,” he stated. “Fans want to feel a journey between these guys knowing that these guys exist in the same universe.”

Cavill’s announcement lays to rest rumors and speculations that Warner Bros. would sack Cavill following the studio’s departure with “Man of Steel” and “Batman v. Superman” director Zack Snyder following the release of “Justice League,” Variety reported. This included rumors that Cavill could be replaced by Michael B. Jordan or Supergirl to promote a more diverse DC Extended Universe. (RELATED: Original Superman To Return To DC Comic Series After Months Of Low Sales)

“There’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin,” Johnson said to Cinema Blend about reintroducing Cavill to the DC Extended Universe. “I have been listening and I’ve been wanting to address fans for years.”
