An Amazon delivery driver was found dead in the yard of a residence Monday near Excelsior Springs, Missouri.

The driver’s delivery van had been parked in front of the house for hours when officers arrived, according to CNN. Police found the driver’s body inside a fenced-in yard with a German shepherd and a mastiff.

Police do not know whether the dogs caused the death of the delivery driver, according to the outlet. Police also have not released the name of the driver.

“We do not know the cause of death yet, but the Amazon driver did have a substantial amount of damage to his body very similar to that of canine bites,” Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said, CNN reported. (RELATED: Amazon Spends Big To Keep Drivers From Jumping Ship)

One police officer shot one of the dogs and it later ran inside with the other dog, CNN reported. Childers later shot both dogs after they became aggressive.

“We’re deeply saddened by tonight’s tragic incident involving a member of our Amazon family and will be providing support to the team and the driver’s loved ones,” Amazon spokesperson Lisa Levandowski said, according to CNN. “We are assisting law enforcement in the investigation.

An autopsy and necropsy are scheduled to be performed, according to the outlet.
