A black bear broke into a cabin near downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Saturday and attacked a man inside.

The bear broke through partially-locked French doors and went straight for the kitchen, according to CBS News. After the man found the bear in the kitchen, the bear attacked him.

The man escaped the attack and called 911 from inside a locked bedroom, CBS News reported. Family members then drove him to the hospital.

“The bear charged the man and swatted at him causing serious injuries to his face and the top of his head,” the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Association (TWRA) said in a news release, reported the Charlotte Observer. “The bear also scratched him across his back as he retreated to the bedroom where he locked himself in and called 911.”

Officials found a bear matching the man’s description on Sunday and euthanized it, reported the outlet. The bear was a 2-3-year-old female with no cubs. (RELATED: Black Bear Attacks 10-Year-Old Boy Playing In Grandparent’s Yard)

This is the second time in a week authorities have euthanized a black bear for attacking a person. Authorities killed another black bear after it mauled a woman in Leavenworth, Washington.

The TWRA provided the Daily Caller with a news release that included no new information.
