Several California midterm congressional seats Democrats were expected to hold comfortably are now in serious danger as Republican candidates continue to gain ground on their Democratic counterparts.

Democratic Rep. Mike Levin of California’s 49th Congressional District may be in danger of losing his reelection campaign to Republican candidate Brian Maryott, as his race is now a toss-up after previously leaning Democrat, according to the Cook Political Report. Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter may also lose her bid to win the state’s 47th Congressional District as party operatives now believe she could lose her seat, according to The Washington Post. The Orange County representative will face off against Republican challenger Scott Baugh on Nov. 8; the race is considered to be a toss-up, according to RealClearPolitics. Porter has raised roughly $22 million to win reelection as of Sept. 30 and has spent $15 million so far, according to OpenSecrets.

Republican operatives believe their candidate, John Duarte, is now more likely to win California’s newly redistricted 13th district where he will compete against Democratic candidate Adam Gray, the Post reported. The race is predicted to be a toss-up as President Joe Biden won the district by 11 points in 2020 while Republican candidates actually won the district by 3.4 points during June’s non-partisan primary, according to Politico’s midterms forecast.

The Republican Party is favored to win the House, according to FiveThirtyEight polling averages.

Levin’s, Porter’s and Duarte’s campaigns did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
