Fox News host Tucker Carlson and a guest celebrated Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, declaring it a major victory for “transparency” Wednesday night.

“Why was it so important to every power center in the United States to prevent Elon Musk from taking over Twitter? Lots of billionaires own media organizations,” Carlson said. “In fact, most media organizations are owned by billionaires. Why was Elon Musk, who is not some kind of right-winger, so threatening? Because he promised to bring free speech back to social media. That’s one thing they can’t tolerate, period, because their entire rule is predicated on censorship.” (RELATED: ‘They Know The Jig Is Up’: The Five Reacts To Media Melting Down Over Musk’s Acquisition Of Twitter)

Musk agreed to complete the $44 billion purchase of the social media site on Oct. 4 and reportedly needs to close his $44 billion deal to purchase the social media company by Friday in order to avoid the continuation of legal proceedings that began following a dispute between Musk and the company, according to CNN. Musk tried to back out of the deal, citing concerns about bots on Twitter.

Musk entered Twitter headquarters Wednesday holding a sink, while changing his bio to read “Chief Twit.”

Musk reportedly plans to reduce the company’s workforce by 75%. The Tesla CEO’s planned purchase drew criticism from liberals, some of whom vowed to leave the site if the deal went through.

Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who told the Hill Musk’s planned purchase was “dangerous for our democracy” on April 25, while Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois questioned whether former President Donald Trump would be reinstated.

Durbin also told the Hill that lawmakers were considering possible regulations in light of Musk’s initial offer to buy the company.

“Elon Musk has a potential to be a great man of history, and he has stepped outside of his designated role as glorified IT support for the regime and he’s stepped into a very dangerous high stakes arena for a cause of civilizational importance,” Darren Beattie of Revolver News, a guest during the segment, told Carlson. “The question of whether we have free speech on what he calls a global public square is indeed of civilizational importance, and it’s an existential threat to the crooks that control our regime.”

The Biden administration is reportedly considering an investigation into Musk’s purchase of Twitter, according to Bloomberg.

“Bringing transparency to Twitter, how it works, what exactly is the algorithm, will change everything,” Carlson said. “I agree. I think this is civilizational.”
