“Saturday Night Live” alum Chris Redd was reportedly assaulted and left bloody in New York City on Wednesday night after an altercation with a man dressed in a security uniform.

The suspect immediately assaulted Redd after he exited his vehicle at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village around 9:40 p.m., law enforcement sources told TMZ. The comedian reportedly suffered a deep cut on his nose. Video footage of the scene shows blood splashed on the sidewalk and stairs as frenzied onlookers gathered around Redd in an effort to assist, according to TMZ.

The man in the security uniform reportedly punched Redd in the nose without any warning. Police patrolling the area at the time of the incident quickly responded to the scene, according to TMZ. In spite of the close proximity and efforts of the police, the alleged assailant managed to flee.

Redd was taken to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan where he received medical care.

Witnesses reported seeing Redd’s Greg Yuna chain snatched off his neck. The links of the expensive chain came apart and scattered to the street when the culprit attempted to rob Redd of his jewelry. Redd was able to recover the chain after the suspect fled the scene, according to TMZ.

Police indicated there is no clear motive for the assault, according to TMZ. (RELATED: Basketball Star Avoids Suspension After Punching Teammate. Does The NBA Need Stricter Misconduct Regulations?)
