The first look inside “Yellowstone” season five dropped late Monday, and my gosh, will it get your heart racing.

We’re less than two weeks away from the two-hour season premier of “Yellowstone” season five. We left off the last season with some pretty epic cliffhangers: John Dutton’s gubernatorial campaign, the fight for the Yellowstone-Dutton ranch and Jamie murdering his biological father. While some might argue the show has gotten a little too soap opera-y, I couldn’t disagree more.

Life is a soap opera, and writer-co-creator Taylor Sheridan has created a believable yet thrilling life in the fictional stories of the Dutton family and all those who come into contact with them. We know there are a slew of character developments across season five, but the new teaser suggests those we love are almost completely reinventing the wheel in their lived experiences.

Beth and Rip are having a very interesting year, according to actor Cole Hauser. Beth is also facing a serious new adversary that appears to be on the brink of bringing her down. Part of me feels like this adversary is going to end up going to the train station.

My only hope is Sheridan has finally decided to make Monica a like-able, selfless, non-whiney, powerful character. She’s been the most ungrateful, spoiled little girl throughout the series, and it’s growing harder and harder to respect her, how she treats her marriage and in-laws, and just about everything in between. Kelsey Asbille, who plays Monica, is an epic actress, but the only time she’s ever been respectable or like-able is when she was helping hunt serial rapists and murderers on the reservation. Hopefully, she’ll get back to that and grow her hair out again.
