CNN anchor Don Lemon said Wednesday that Democratic candidates “don’t want to be seen” with President Joe Biden over his low approval ratings ahead of the midterm elections.

The president’s latest approval ratings have remained under water in the week prior to the midterm elections, leading Democratic candidates to campaign without him. Other prominent Democratic leaders, notably former President Barack Obama, have replaced Biden on the campaign trail in the hopes of keeping control of both chambers of Congress.

A recent CNN/SSRS poll found Biden’s approval rating at 41% among registered voters, the second lowest of presidential approval ratings ahead of the midterms. The poll surveyed 1,290 registered voters between October 26-31 with a 3.4 margin of error.

“That’s a big factor in where Biden has been these last few days,” anchor and former Daily Caller reporter Kaitlan Collins said. “He is not going to the places that you’re seeing former President Obama go to. It’s because of that approval rating.”

“A lot of people are not, you know, they don’t want to be seen with the president, quite frankly, and they don’t even want to answer the question about whether they should be running with him or having him on the campaign trail or whether he should be running in 2024,” Lemon added.

Several polls throughout his presidency have consistently found the president’s approval ratings to stand between 30%-40%. More Americans continue to hold a negative view of Biden. Currently, 42% approve of Biden, while 53% disapprove, according to FiveThirtyEight. (RELATED: POLL: 56% Of Democrats Think Biden Should Not Run Again In 2024)

In April, a Quinnipiac poll found the president’s approval rating to stand at 33%, while over half of respondents, 54%, disapproved.

Democratic voters and leaders have hesitated to support the idea of Biden running for re-election in 2024. A New York Times/Siena poll, for example, found that 64% of Democratic voters prefer a different candidate to run for the Oval Office in 2024. RootsAction, a progressive organization, are planning to open a national campaign titled, “Don’t Run Joe” the day after the midterm elections.

In June, the Daily Caller asked all 50 Democratic senators whether they would endorse Biden’s potential re-election campaign. Only five senators, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, affirmed their support.
