Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” lamented the attack on Paul Pelosi on Wednesday morning, as well as political violence in general.

Forty-two year-old David DePape reportedly broke into the Pelosi’s private San Francisco home Friday and allegedly assaulted Paul with a hammer. Authorities said they discovered later that DePape had brought tape, white rope, a second hammer, gloves and a zip tie. DePape was charged with assaulting a U.S. official’s immediate family member with the intent to retaliate against the official on account of the performance of official duties and attempting to kidnap a U.S. official on account of the performance of official duties.

Scarborough continued the coverage Wednesday, saying something like this has “never happened” before.(RELATED: Politico Says Reports Of A Third Person At Paul Pelosi’s House Are ‘Baseless.’ They’re Based On Politico’s Reporting)

“This, for people, wake up! Wake up! This has never happened before. Ever. Ever in our life time. So for people saying you’re making a big deal out of nothing – no. This has never – nothing close to this has happened before, where, where violence is committed in a plot that was hatched to assassinate the speaker of the House, the second in-line for the presidency,” Scarborough said.

“Her 82-year-old husband gets in the way and gets his skull fractured? Probably with life-threatening injuries, and people are laughing about it,” he continued. “We are – we are in a place that is so far removed from where we have been in our lifetimes politically that it makes one shutter when they think about it.”
