After more than two decades of pain, suffering and boneheaded ownership, the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia) is so close to getting rid of Dan Snyder and so close to a new beginning.

As a DMV native, yours truly can’t help but be happy for the people.

It gets even better. The next owners of the Washington Commanders could be swaggalicious!

Only a day after owners Dan Snyder and his wife Tanya announced their consideration of possibly selling the Commanders, People reported that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was interested in purchasing the team, which isn’t the first time that the billionaire has been linked to potentially owning an NFL franchise.

And then it gets even more interesting.

Hip hop mogul, business tycoon and former Brooklyn Nets part-owner Jay-Z is also apparently interested in owning the team and “possibly in partnership” with Bezos, according to People.

Back in 2019, CBS Sports reported Bezos’ original interest in owning an NFL team, with sources telling them that Bezos “has strong support within the league to eventually join their ranks.” At that particular time, there wasn’t an NFL team for sale. Now, however, the Washington Commanders are on the market, and they’re near The Washington Post, which is currently owned by Bezos. (RELATED: Is Dan Snyder Selling The Washington Commanders? Or Is He Actually Playing 4D Chess?)

It should be noted that the statement from the Snyders didn’t necessarily mean they were selling the team, however, hiring a bank is often a first step to getting that process going, according to The Wall Street Journal. Moreover, Dan and Tanya Snyder have already had at least four phone calls with people who are interested in buying the team, according to Forbes. When People reached out to the Commanders for comment after WSJ’s report, a team spokesperson replied, “We are exploring all options.”

On paper, it looks like the Snyders are going to sell the Washington Commanders, and for the good of the DMV, please let it happen! At first, you can’t help but think that Snyder may have been playing 4D Chess, but based on the latest reports, he might actually go for it and sell the team. That would be beyond fantastic — especially with marketable public figures like Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z that you just know could draw in new talent.

The DMV deserves that. The DMV deserves a good football team. To make it worse, most of the football fans in the DMV are either Cowboys fans or fans of another team. It’s been like that for years.

It’s like Wale said in his 2009 “Nike Boots,” a song where he was talking about life and culture in the DMV, and when the Commanders were still known as the Redskins.

“Nobody rep for the ‘Skins, they busy cheering them stars. It’s ironic, it’s the same for the artists. Rather than buy our songs, they busy cheering the stars.”

True, indeed.

The DMV deserves better than that, and it can all start with Dan Snyder selling the team.
