The FBI alerted the public Thursday to a ‘credible threat’ to synagogues in New Jersey, according to a series of tweets posted by the bureau.

“The FBI has received credible information of a broad threat to synagogues in NJ. We ask at this time that you take all security precautions to protect your community and facility. We will share more information as soon as we can. Stay alert. In case of emergency call police,” the FBI Newark office wrote in a tweet Thursday.

The FBI has since “identified the source of the threat who no longer poses a danger to the community,” the bureau told the Daily Caller News Foundation Friday. (RELATED: Biden Admin To Investigate Vermont University For Alleged Antisemitism)

In 2021, antisemitic incidents reached a new high with 2,717 total incidents, indicating a 34% surge compared to the previous year, according to an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) audit. There were 521 reported incidents at Jewish institutions including synagogues and community centers during that same time period.

More than 60% of religious based-hate crimes in 2019 targeted Jewish people, according to the FBI.

The incidents continue in 2022. In January, a hostage-taker attempted to attack a rabbi and his three congregants in a Texas synagogue near Dallas.

The incident was deemed “a terrorism-related matter, in which the Jewish community was targeted,” the FBI previously told The Washington Post.
