Nevada voters told CNN Tuesday their votes were based on issues such as the border, crime and inflation, potentially worrying news for Democrats in the swing state as Republicans have outperformed Democrats on those issues.

“I voted for Trump! Woo-hoo!” one voter told CNN correspondent Rosa Flores. When reminded Trump was not on the ballot, the voter clarified that she backed Trump’s endorsed candidates.

Trump endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Joe Lombardo and senatorial candidate Adam Laxalt, a former attorney general, according to the Washington Examiner. Laxalt led Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada by 5% in a Trafalgar poll, while Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo led Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak by 3% in the same poll. “I would like to see, you know, the cost of everything, you know, paying attention to what people are really going through, the cost of living, you know, crime, homeless,” another voter told Flores.

The Consumer Price Index increased 8.2% year-to-year in September after rising by 8.3% in August, 8.6% in July, 9.1% in June and 8.5% in May. Only 38% of respondents approved of Joe Biden’s handling of inflation in an Economist/YouGov poll, which also noted that 68% of respondents were following the issue, and several polls show voters trust Republicans more to handle economic issues and crime.

“The open border is absolutely ridiculous. I don’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat, it’s crazy that we’re leaving it open,” a third voter told Flores.

Biden had 37% approval on handling immigration, according to the Economist/YouGov poll. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered an all-time high of nearly 2.3 million migrants on the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2022, which does not include so-called “got-aways,” or those who evade law enforcement.
