MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough said Tuesday that a Republican declaration of victory after 10 p.m. will be “very calculated,” and likened it to the 2020 election.

Scarborough said voters should be weary if Republicans declare themselves winners, noting that in 2020 Democrats won in several instances because votes arrived late or still needed to be counted. The host also seemed hopeful that absentee ballots could help push Democrats over the edge in tough races.

“The Republicans, their efforts to steal the election in 2020, it was very calculated,” Scarborough claimed, arguing people were asking Republican legislatures in states like Michigan and Wisconsin and Pennsylvania to count the votes the way Florida does. “When you get the early votes, count them. That way polls open at 7:00 or 8:00 all of those are tallied up just like that, and you know by 10:00 who won the election. Right? So when you hear Republicans at 10:00 or 11:00 going, ‘All right, let’s just stop counting the votes, I won,’ when you hear that, understand this is all very calculated. They’re doing this for a reason because they understand Republicans do well day of. And it’s the early votes, right, so early votes where the Democrats catch up.”

Polls favor Republicans, with the economy and inflation continually topping the list of concerns for voters. A Rasmussen poll found 48% of likely voters intend to vote Republicans while 41% said they would vote Democrat. However, Democrats were much more likely to vote absentee rather than on Election Day. In Pennsylvania, Democrats cast over 70% of the 1.1 million absentee ballots requested.
