Democratic candidate Michelle Lujan Grisham won reelection in the New Mexico governor’s race Tuesday.

Lujan Grisham led her Republican opponent, former meteorologist Mark Ronchetti, who former President Donald Trump endorsed, by eight points. The left-wing candidate has campaigned on a pro-abortion and anti-climate change agenda that won the endorsement of President Joe Biden.

Cook Political Report viewed the races as leaning Democratic.

As governor, Lujan Grisham oversaw a rise in crime that she recruited the FBI to solve. She also sought to increase access to abortion, allocating $10 million recently to support an abortion clinic. (RELATED: New Mexico Gov. Grisham To Spend $10 Million In Taxpayer Money On New Abortion Clinic)

Lujan Grisham’s time in office has also been marked with some scandals.

In early 2022, a whistleblower alleged that she and several of her appointees retaliated against him. She settled a lawsuit in 2021 brought on by a former staffer alleging sexual harassment.

Ronchetti has been outspoken against Lujan’s key policies that have led to an uptick in crime and public safety issues.

He ran on tough-on-crime and hawkish border security stances by cracking down on drug trafficking and illegal immigration. On abortion, Ronchetti has advocated against the procedure after 15 weeks.
