Oh, this wacky sports world of ours.

Ottawa Senators defenseman Nikita Zaitsev apparently sent a private message to the Instagram meme account @bruce_garricrotch demanding the two meet up “face-to-face” after the account posted a meme making fun of Zaitsev’s defense.

The meme account took to its popular @EverydaySens Twitter page, posting a screen recording of the messages.

The meme that seemed to piss off Zaitsev was a reference to Spiderman, mocking a lack of defense from the Ottawa Senator.

Straight off of the bat, you have to wonder why on Earth Zaitsev thought it was a good idea to come at a meme account talking about a “face-to-face” interaction. Now he’s just become a meme off of a meme.

I’ve never understood why some multi-millionaire athletes get so sensitive to the point where they’re going back-and-forth with a fan. Now we’ve gotten to the point where athletes are getting offended at meme accounts, and borderline threatening them at that. Nikita Zaitsev has an annual average $4.5 million salary, so far raking in nearly $28 million throughout his career in the National Hockey League.

Why are we worried about a meme?

But, hey, if that’s the way we’re doing it, I want an athlete to come at me like that. Oh, man. I would totally be like @bruce_garricrotch (@EverydaySens on Twitter) and use it for beautiful content. I’d ride that wave in all its glory.

So with that being said, any takers?
