Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel has been endorsed for reelection by over 100 committee members in an open letter.

The letter is being led by Richard Porter, a national committeeman from Illinois, The Washington Post reported. The signatories are confident McDaniel has “the skills, integrity, and experience to meet the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities of our time,” according to the letter. They believe the RNC should have the singular goal to “achieve victory in 2024 with great Republican candidates up and down the ticket in every state and territory,” the letter states.

Politico reported Thursday about a potential challenge to McDaniel’s position by Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York, who received national attention for his closer than expected gubernatorial campaign. He told committee members he is “very seriously considering” a bid for RNC Chair, according to an email obtained by Politico. (RELATED: Lee Zeldin ‘Very Seriously Considering’ Going For RNC Chair)

McDaniel was first elected RNC Chair in 2017 after a recommendation from then President-elect Donald Trump, NBC News reported. She has received criticism from party insiders for Republican underperformance in the midterms relative to expectations, NBC added.

Voting for RNC Chair will take place at the committee’s scheduled winter meeting in 2023, the letter says.
