Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams entered concussion protocol Sunday after being rattled by a sack.

This is the second time in less than two weeks where Stafford has been hurt with a head injury. He missed last week’s game dealing with a concussion and had just cleared protocols Friday to play again, according to NBC Sports.

The injury is really lousy considering how well Stafford was playing prior to getting hurt.

He threw the football for two touchdowns and 159 yards in total during the first half of the game versus New Orleans before he went to the medical tent. His first touchdown throw of the game was a thing of beauty and reminiscent of the quarterback he was last season.

In my opinion, it just doesn’t make much sense for Stafford to return to the field this year. He should let his head rest for the remainder of the season, instead of rushing back to play for a team that’s going nowhere. At 3-7, it’s pretty likely that the Rams will miss out on the postseason anyway.

Suffering two head injuries in less than fourteen days is scary, knowing how badly concussions can alter somebody’s life and mental health. It’s something Stafford and the Rams need to be smart and cautious with as the season progresses.  (RELATED: Best Fans In The NFL? Stafford’s health is much more important than the game. With a wife and kids at home, he should just rest his head and look towards playing next season.
