A mountain lion killed a leashed dog Friday evening in Hollywood Hills residential neighborhood, KTLA 75 reported.

Security footage shows the mountain lion  emerging from the bushes near the Hollywood Reservoir by Creston and Durand Drives, KTLA reported. The mountain lion stopped, crouched, and then attacked the two small leashed dogs. (RELATED: Mountain Lion Found Wandering Downtown San Francisco Captured, Released Into The Wild)

“I felt the tug and I heard Piper squeal,” the man said of the leashed dog. “I turn around and I just saw a face. I didn’t know what it was.”

What was likely P-22, an 11-year-old that lives near Griffith Park, first pounced on Piper, a Chihuahua mix.

“It was like a two- or three-second struggle,” said the man. “He had Piper in his mouth. He didn’t growl at all. I didn’t even hear him. I never had a chance.”

Piper died, but the second dog lived.

My wife and I got Piper in 2014,” Daniel Jimenez, Piper’s owner, told KTLA. “We rescued her and she was just the sweetest dog. We’re just devastated at the loss of our little dog.”

Jiminez was celebrating his daughter’s birthday party when he received a text from the dog walker, who has chosen to remain anonymous. ”The mountain lion attacked and took away your dog. Killed your dog.”

“We thought it was a joke, but it turned out it was real and we were just shocked,” Jimenez told KTLA.

The attack occurred at a time when many people typically walk their dogs.

“I don’t want anything bad to happen to P-22,” said Jimenez. “I just want people to be safe out there so that nothing like this happens again.”
