A Brandeis University student was fatally killed in a rollover bus accident Saturday night, and dozens more students were sent to local hospitals, according to CNN.

The bus crashed into a tree at around 10:30 p.m. while returning from a hockey game at Northeastern University, according to CNN. The incident reportedly took place by the Brandeis campus in Waltham, Massachusetts. Investigators believe there were around 27 students on the shuttle total, according to the outlet.

Brandeis University President Ronald Liebowitz identified the deceased student as Vanessa Mark, according to a letter posted Nov. 20 on the university’s official website. The remaining 26 students were sent to nearby hospitals with injuries, CNN reported. (RELATED: School Bus Crashes Head On Into Dump Truck, Sending 15 Kids To Hospital)

Mark, 25, was on leave from classes but remained an “active and cherished member of the Brandeis community,” according to the president’s statement.

“I know that sadness over last night’s fatal shuttle accident is rippling through our community today. We are all experiencing the shock of such a terrible accident, and everyone’s recovery will take time,” Liebowitz wrote.

Grief counselors are available to students through the counseling center through the Thanksgiving holiday. The campus will not be holding classes originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, according to the statement.

“In a few days, many of us will be gathering with family and friends; while this holiday may be difficult, it is my hope that spending time with loved ones will help us begin to heal. When we return from the break, I know our community will continue to come together in support of one another,” Liebowitz continued.

No other names are public yet from the incident, and no charges have been made, according to AP News. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
