CBS News and its affiliates briefly fled Twitter over “security concerns” before announcing their return less than two days later.

The outlet’s decision to pause Twitter use came in direct response to Elon Musk’s Oct. 27 takeover of the company, which led to the layoffs of nearly 50% of his staff and mass resignations. These upheavals caused CBS News to grow concerned about the security of information on Twitter, Variety reported.

“In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of abundance of caution, CBS News is pausing its activity on the social media site as it continues to monitor the platform,” CBS News national correspondent Jonathon Vigliotti said in a Friday report.

On Sunday, the network announced its return to the platform after the short hiatus in a now-deleted tweet.

“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation,” CBS News announced.

Musk responded to the announcement with a chuckling emoji. (RELATED: Klobuchar Says Musk Trying To Run Twitter To The Ground, Wants Congress To Get Involved)

The tech billionaire previously planned cut Twitter’s staff from 7,500 to 2,500 in an effort to increase the company’s profitability, according to documents released in October. In a Nov. 16 email to his employees, Musk informed them that they must “work long hours at high intensity” or resign.

Musk’s latest change reinstated former President Donald Trump’s Twitter account after nearly two years of permanent suspension for allegedly inciting the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Musk also allowed rapper Kanye West back onto the platform after his Oct. 9 suspension for making anti-Semitic remarks.

As of Monday morning, Trump had not posted a tweet since Twitter reinstated his account. West tweeted “Shalom : )” on Sunday evening.
