80-year-old Harrison Ford’s upcoming fifth “Indiana Jones” film reportedly features cutting-edge “de-aging” technology that will make him appear to be 40 years old.

The legendary actor is set to give fans a blast from the past by appearing half his age, thanks to the technology. Director James Mangold implemented a sequence in which viewers will be able to see Ford in his prime, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR). The results are said to be an epic revival of an iconic movie that so many fans know and love.

Fans in search of a dose of nostalgia need not look any further than the film’s opening scene. Set in 1944, the de-aged Ford will face the Nazis in a castle. While the footage is brand-new, fans will get to experience a much younger version of Ford on the big screen.

Movie creators used old footage of the actor, as well as his original jacket from the 1981 film “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” to create the illusion, THR continued. Ford has insisted this new-and-improved technology will blow viewers away, and assured his fan base it’s not the so-called poor-quality technology associated with De Niro in “The Irishman” or Kurt Russell in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” according to the outlet.

“This is the first time I’ve seen [the technology] where I believe it,” the actor said, THR continued. “It’s a little spooky. I don’t think I even want to know how it works, but it works.” (RELATED: Harrison Ford Set To Join The Marvel Cinematic Universe)

The first snippet of the movie, which sees the famous actor undergo a de-aging process, will then leap forward to 1969 and showcase Ford in his current 80-year-old form, the outlet reported. That’s when most of the action occurs, according to THR.

Mangold said he wanted to “give the audience an adrenaline blast. So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ’40s and ’60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days,” the outlet reported.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy reportedly said she hoped audiences would watch the first scene of the film and think, “Oh my God, they just found footage.”

“Indy 5” is scheduled for theatrical release June 30, 2023.
