An Oregon Ducks football player punched a fan Saturday after the visiting Ducks lost 34-38 in Corvallis to the Oregon State Beavers.

As Oregon outside linebacker DJ Johnson was leaving the field, an Oregon State fan wearing a No. 4 jersey and a Cowboy hat came up to him. The fan was one of several spectators who walked on the field after Oregon State scored an upset come-from-behind victory. It appears from the video that the fan was either waving to Johnson or approaching him with a handshake. Johnson punched the fan by the back of his head, and the fan’s cowboy hat fell off. Two coaches pulled Johnson away before the situation further escalated. It’s unclear from the video if the fan had said anything that would have provoked Johnson’s behavior.

“We all wonder why rushing the field is an issue,” Twitter user @gusthesportsfan replied to the video. “Rushing the field while the opposing team is still present should be banned and punished extensively otherwise these things will continue to happen. (Not saying the player or fan was right).”

No. 9 Oregon lead in the fourth quarter 34-17. Isaiah Newell scored a touchdown with 8:11 remaining, capping off a late comeback and leading No. 22 Oregon State to victory.
