Former Vice President Mike Pence told Fox News’ Outnumbered on Wednesday that the White House was likely keeping a close eye on Elon Musk and Twitter because of fears the social media company would investigate the coverup of the Hunter Biden laptop story.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Monday that the administration was “keeping an eye on” Twitter happenings since Elon Musk took over the company. Jean-Pierre voiced particular concerns with what she alleged would be a massive influx of “misinformation” on the platform.

“To see in the White House press room the suggestion that the President of the United States is keeping a close eye on any element of the media is deeply offensive to me,” Pence said. (RELATED: Things That Didn’t Exist When Biden Was Born)

“I think it may well be because Elon Musk, who I came to know very well in the four years of the Trump/Pence administration. I think he’s finally able to release information about the Hunter Biden story.”

The month before the 2020 presidential election, Twitter blocked users from sharing a bombshell report from the New York Post that revealed that then presidential candidate Joe Biden’s son Hunter had offered to introduce then-Vice President Joe Biden to an executive of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma. Twitter also locked the New York Post out of its Twitter account for reporting on the laptop, whose authenticity has been confirmed but the Daily Caller News Foundation.

In a move that then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey now describes as “mistake” Twitter relied on its policy against using materials obtained through hacking to censor the distribution of the story.

“The fact that a laptop was discovered in the weeks before the election, that emails were revealed, and that social media platforms including Twitter actually suppressed access to a New York Post story is deeply offensive to me,” Pence said. “And Twitter wasn’t the only one, but the fact that they’re going to come out with this information I have to believe some of the people walking around in the West Wing, it’s one of the reasons they’re keeping a close eye.”
